Raise the Vibration with Naomi Gottlieb-Miller
Dates: Fri   7/17/2009
Time:  7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Raise The Vibration: Embracing the Rhythm of Life Get into the groove for this special Friday night yoga class, which will combine the artistry and transformational power of yoga, with the dynamic sounds of drumming. Unlike other yoga classes, however, Naomi will be joined by one of D.C.’S most talented drummers, Kristen Arant, who will offer the sweet, resonant sounds of her drum. The drumbeat will keep the pace of our practice, welcoming us to warm up our bodies steadily, to build some heat and fire as we step up the practice and then to gently cool down as we move towards savasana. The sound of the drum is often related to the pulsation of our hearts, so as the drum seamlessly invites us to stay connected to the deepest intentions of our hearts, we will fully embrace the rhythm of our lives! Open to all levels. Investment $30.

Kristen Arant, a.k.a. "The Drumlady," is a performing artist, percussionist and drum instructor living and working in Washington, DC. She began her drumming career by co-founding the activist rhythm ensemble Rhythm Workers Union in 2001, through which she became enthralled by the Djembe (W. African) drum and began to take lessons and classes in order to master it. In 2005 she founded the Young Women's Drumming Empowerment Project, which strives to give rise to young women's voices through drumming, poetry, movement, song and performance. YWDEP runs an enrichment program every summer and performs as an all-female drum troupe through the year. Kristen began teaching, performing and organizing drumming events full-time in 2007. She has taught drumming empowerment workshops at 40 local schools and youth centers, and has her own class for adult students on Sundays in Takoma Park, MD. Kristen also plays percussion in DC's OmegaBand. More info is available on her website at www.drumlady.com
